Stephen Pina Announces Candidacy for Ward 1 School Committee in Brockton
Longtime leader, veteran, and parent pledges to restore accountability and excellence in Brockton Public Schools through the Champion City Project.
BROCKTON, MA — On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Stephen Pina, a U.S. Army veteran, father of four, and former senior federal official, officially filed nomination papers for Ward 1 School Committee at Brockton City Hall, declaring his candidacy for the upcoming November election.
Pina, a Brockton native and product of its public schools, launched his campaign under a bold education reform platform known as the Champion City Project — a 12-point plan focused on academic accountability, student readiness, school safety, and respect for frontline school staff. The initiative aims to return Brockton to its reputation as the City of Champions by demanding results, transparency, and discipline throughout the public school system.
“Brockton’s kids are being set up to fail, and no one in leadership is being held accountable,” said Pina. “I’m not here to manage decline — I’m here to rebuild. Our students deserve schools that prepare them to win at life, and that starts with strong leadership, clear standards, and full transparency.”
A 100% disabled veteran and former federal senior manager, Pina brings over two decades of executive leadership and operational oversight experience to the race. His background includes managing multi-million-dollar budgets, leading high-performing teams, and implementing data-driven accountability systems — experience he believes is sorely needed on the School Committee.
The Champion City Project calls for:
- Public academic dashboards to track school performance
- Vocational and trades-based education reform, including a new high school
- Civics and personal finance graduation requirements
- A crackdown on classroom politics and activist-driven curriculum
- Support and pay equity for paraprofessionals, janitors, aides, and cafeteria staff
Pina’s campaign is built around grassroots energy and community trust. With four children currently in the Brockton Public School system, including athletes, ROTC cadets, and honor students, he says he’s not campaigning from the outside — he’s living it every day.
“I’ve got four kids in the Brockton Public School system right now — from elementary to high school — and I see firsthand what’s happening. I’ve seen the lack of discipline, the academic decline, and the silence from leadership. This isn’t something I read about or heard secondhand. I live it every single day as a father. That’s why I’m running — because enough is enough.”
The campaign has launched its official website at www.VotePina.com, where supporters can download the full Champion City Project, sign up to volunteer, or request lawn signs.
