How Centralized Education Funding Broke Brockton

How Centralized Education Funding Broke Brockton

Oct 20, 2025

When I graduated from Brockton High in 1993, our schools were built on pride, discipline, and community ownership. That changed when the state took control of education funding. What started as a plan to “equalize opportunity” ended up erasing local accountability and weakening once-strong cities like ours. If we’re serious about rebuilding Brockton, we have to learn from the past and stop repeating the same mistakes — starting by returning power, trust, and responsibility to the people who live here.

Raising Academic Standards: The Champion City Competency Standard

Raising Academic Standards: The Champion City Competency Standard

Oct 20, 2025

Brockton once led Massachusetts in education. Today, high spending and low results have weakened our schools.
Stephen Pina’s Champion City Competency Standard sets a higher bar — requiring mastery in English, math, science, and civics while giving parents transparency and students real pathways to success.
It’s time to expect more and waste less.
